Eat More Fat To Get Thin!

healthy fats

For years we’ve been told to eat a low-fat diet if we want to lose weight, but perhaps we’ve been doing it wrong all long. Mark Hyman, author of “Eat Fat, Get Thin” says that in order for you to lose weight, you have to eat a diet high in fat. Sounds shocking, but eating the right types of fat can cause you to lose fat more successfully.

There are good fats and there are bad fats. Eating burgers, donuts, and sweets are the types of fats that you should avoid. Hyman believes that 70-80% of your diet should be plant foods, such as vegetables, whole grains, beans, and fruits. He doesn’t eat much meat or dairy and avoids foods that are high in sugar and refined carbs.

There are plenty of foods that are plant based, which can be great substitutes for the foods that you love. The problem with diets is that people look at diets as temporary, but when you’re trying to lose weight and keep it off, you should begin by making small changes that can reap permanent results such as, weight loss.

Good Fats

Monounsaturated fatty acids: These are found in a variety of foods and oils, such as: olive oil, canola oil, peanut oil, safflower oil, and sesame oil.

Polyunsturated fatty acids: These are found mainly in plant-based foods and oils, such as: soybean oil, corn oil, sunflower oil, salmon, herring, trout, and avocados.

Omega-3 fatty acids: These can come in plant-based oils and different types of fish, such as: salmon, mackerel, cod, eggs, hemp seeds, walnuts, and chia seeds.

How Does The Weight Come Off?

Leading a healthier lifestyle is not easy, but the more you begin to make small changes, the quicker the pounds will start shedding off. Eating more healthy fats will change the way you see unhealthy foods. Instead of picking up sweets, you’ll pick up a couple of almonds that you know are good for your heart and will get rid of your sweet tooth.

Eating more healthy fats means you’ll be eating fewer carbs and from a fat-loss perspective, eating less carbs and replacing them with healthy fats sets the stage for an optimal fat-loss environment.

Your body releases insulin when you eat different types of foods and when you eat good fats, you have better nutrients and lower insulin levels, which is achieved when you reduce the amount of carbs. This allows your body to make better use of the fat it stores for energy and at the same time allowing these good fats to fuel your muscles.

Eating good fats makes you feel full, so you’re full and satisfied longer than when you restrict yourself with low carb diets. The more satisfied you are, the less likely you eat between meals or have the need to eat sugary foods.

Healthy fats also help reduce inflammation in the body, which comes in handy after a workout because it helps with sore muscles and joints. Plus it makes it easier to train for fat loss, coconut oil for example does not store fat and is a great source of energy.
