Gisele Bündchen is known for her strict diet, but her morning ritual is actually very simple and a great way to start the day. The now retired supermodel and wife of Tom Brady starts her day off with lukewarm water with lemon, followed by homemade green juice made with fruits and vegetables.

Jessica Cording, a registered dietitian, and author of Healthy in a Hurry: Simple, Wholesome Recipes for Every Meal of the Day, tells SELF about how great it is to start your day this way especially because it helps you keep hydrated.

“It can be a great way to work in fluids after eight hours overnight without drinking anything,” she says. The acidity found in lemon juice can help you go in the morning but without the need for caffeine. This is especially helpful if you suffer from constipation, drinking water can help move things along quicker. Plus, if you’re not a fan of drinking plain water, adding lemon may help you enjoy it better.

By drinking warm water, your body also has less work to do to increase the temperature of water, allowing it to leave the stomach faster. Water early in the morning can also boost your energy because when you get up and are feeling tired, it may be because you’re dehydrated. It also provides you with the recommended daily intake of vitamin C, which helps boost your immune system.

Drinking green juice is another way to give your body the boost it needs, since it’s packed with nutrients, many people have juice instead of having a heavy breakfast. Plus it’s a time saver if you prepare it the night before.

Green juice is easy to digest and requires little to no work, so it doesn’t ask much of your digestive system. The goal of green juices is to keep you full because most are packed with fiber and nutrients that are good for you. If it tastes too good, that means you are packing in the sugar and that’s not doing you any favors.

Keep your juice green, the darker the green the better. Add green leaves, cucumbers, celery, carrots, lemon, and apples which all help keep you hydrated and full. Keep it interesting every time, don’t get your body used to just spinach or just kale, alternate your greens because otherwise you may build up toxins in your body and develop an allergy. You have the freedom to experiment, so go for it!

Gisele Bündchen may have a super strict diet, but her drinking ritual is totally doable and we all know what keeping hydrated, vegetables, and fruits do for your skin
