“I love candy, I live to eat,” he said in an interview with Mama’s Latinas. His biggest motivation for losing the weight is his daughter Mia, whom he went on vacation with recently and gained so much weight that he feared for his health. De Molina is a cancer survivor, he had kidney cancer about 10 years ago, and when you’ve had cancer in the past, you want to make sure you do everything to stay healthy. He originally lost about 90 pounds back in 2008 with the South Beach Diet, but this time around he did things differently.

“I continue to eat very healthy, including a salad and vegetables in each meal,” said De Molina to People en Español. He also eats every 3 hours to maintain his metabolism working up to speed, drinking protein shakes and exercise for at least one hour a day.

“I drink an espresso without sugar, something that I would never drink and that takes away my cravings for dessert,” he said. It’s been a great experience for the presenter and he shared the following tips for those that want to follow in his footsteps:

  1. Try not to eat fatty foods: stay away from pasta and bread
  2. Eat every 3 hours and eat healthy snack in between
  3. Replace a meal, preferably in the morning with a protein shake
  4. Drink a shot of espresso when you crave something sweet
  5. When you eat at night, eat vegetables, salad and some type of protein
  6. Don’t eat anything fried
  7. Exercise at least 1 hour a day, 6 times a week
  8. Don’t stay hungry

As you can see his journey has not been easy. One thing that he’s doing differently now than back in 2008, is that he’s not dieting. The South Beach Diet helped him lose 90 pounds, but after he lost all that weight, he gained it back. This time around, he’s not dieting, but rather adapting a healthier lifestyle and working out, which is why he’s been so successful at keeping the weight off.
