We’ve all heard the saying, “You are what you eat,” and while this may be true, there are things other than your diet that can be keeping you from losing weight.  Eating salads: People love salads, especially when they’re trying to lose weight. Eating a salad can be a great way to eat less calories and eat more vegetables, but if you’re adding fried chicken tenders and creamy ranch dressing, you’re not eating any healthier than if you were to eat a burger. Make sure you switch to grilled chicken or fish and keep you’re dressing light, like a vinaigrette or simply a little olive oil, lemon and salt can be very flavorful.

Drinking diet soda: Diet soda is half the calories or in many cases no calories compared to regular soda, except it’s packed with artificial sweeteners. Sugar can give you a belly or prevent you from getting the flat stomach you want. In fact, studies show that drinking soda, even diet soda, can make you gain anywhere from 7-10 pounds a year if you drink it every day! Drop the soda and you’ll watch the pounds come off. Instead, drink plenty of water and if you have a taste for something flavorful, add fruit or lemon to your water. Infused water is amazing!

Sleep more and cooler: The quality of sleep and the temperature you keep in your room can affect your weight. If you’re not getting enough sleep, you feel tired, lazy and you’re more likely to binge eat. On average people that don’t get enough sleep (7-8 hours) eat 300 more calories than those who get a good night’s rest. Also, turn your thermostat down. A Japanese study found that people experienced a drop in body fat when they turned their thermostat down to 63 degrees. When your body is cold, this causes your muscles to work and generate heat—burning calories!

Chubby loved ones: Unfortunately happy couples tend to gain weight together. This is because they feel comfortable in the relationship and don’t feel the need to impress each other. The same thing goes for having overweight friends, they’re more than likely to induce you to eat unhealthy food or convince you to cheat on your diet because they don’t care about being in a diet. Find

Too much cardio: The first thing people do when they want to lose weight is hit the treadmill or go for a brisk walk. They like that they are sweating, which can only mean that their workout is working, right? No. Most people that do a lot of cardio at the beginning of their weightloss journey will see the pounds come off and fast. After a while the weightloss will stop because after 20 minutes they start to burn muscle, not fat. You want to build muscle, which pushes off fat and makes you look leaner and for this you need high intensity interval training which burns more fat than just staying at the same pace for the entire workout, which is what cardio does. Alternate your workout, and you’ll see the changes and feel stronger.
