¿Cuál es el mejor medicamento para su hipertensión?

Hay una larga lista de medicamentos para la hipertensión, y las directrices recomiendan tanto a los inhibidores de la ECA como a los BRA como opciones de primera línea. Se ha probado que ambas clases son efectivas para reducir la presión arterial y reducir los riesgos de enfermedad cardiaca y ACV.

Pero Hripcsak señaló que se han realizado pocas comparaciones directas de los dos tipos de fármacos para ayudar a los médicos a decidir cuál recetar.

Entonces, su equipo observó los datos del mundo real. Utilizaron algunas bases de datos de gran tamaño de Estados Unidos, Corea del Sur y Europa, con los expedientes de salud de casi 3 millones de pacientes, que acababan de comenzar a tomar un inhibidor de la ECA o un BRA en algún momento entre 1996 y 2018.

A la gran mayoría (casi 2.3 millones) les recetaron un inhibidor de la ECA como su único antihipertensivo. Los demás (casi 674,000) comenzaron con un BRA.

El estudio encontró que, en general, no hubo una diferencia clara entre los dos grupos en cuanto a su riesgo promedio de sufrir un ataque cardiaco, un ACV o insuficiencia cardiaca.
