¿Es Útil el Calcio Para Los Huesos?

Después de todo, tomar más calcio quizá no proteja a los huesos cuando se envejece. Unos investigadores de Nueva Zelanda que analizaron más de 100 investigaciones previas afirman que las directrices que aconsejan a las personas mayores que consuman al menos entre 1,000 y 1,200 miligramos de calcio al día no son apropiadas.

No se encontró ninguna prueba de que aumentar la ingesta de calcio más allá de los niveles normales dietéticos fortaleciera los huesos de las personas mayores o previniera fracturas, afirmó el investigador, el Dr. Mark Bolland.

“Hemos reunido todos los estudios clínicos sobre la ingesta de complementos de calcio y de calcio a partir de la dieta tanto para la densidad ósea como para las fracturas”, dijo Bolland, profesor asociado del departamento de la Universidad de Auckland.

“Consideradas en conjunto, pensamos que se trata de las evidencias más firmes que podemos tener de que tomar complementos de calcio no será beneficioso a menos que haya razones médicas claras de que se necesitan”, dijo.
