Cisneros has a double-nationality here and in Mexico and now when she is asked where she’s from, she says she’s American with Mexican roots. She eventually went to live in Mexico because she felt that Mexico floods her with joy, embraces her, and makes her feel like she belongs.
Latinos come in so many shapes and colors that they are so used to this and while there is no specific reason why people do it, they are forced to identify, something others like Caucasians and Blacks don’t have to do. Even Latinos do it; perhaps it’s a conversation starter or just the need to fit the “mold” according to what you look like. The Latino culture is so rich and so beautiful; that it’s something Latinos have become accustomed to hear.
