How To Get Rid of Summer Acne

Are you wondering why all of a sudden you’re breaking out in the middle of the summer? Is it the sun, the sweat, the pollution? All of the above can cause you to break out during the summer and if you don’t do anything about it, it’s only going to spread and get worse.

Heat can cause you to produce more sebum, which is that greasy substance that you develop on your hair and face. Heat and humid conditions intensify your natural oil production, so this means more breakouts.  Air pollution, including smog, chemicals, and toxins can also clog your pores and cause acne. People who work out and use athletic gear like helmets or you use things to cover your face are also more prone to trapping moisture and promoting bacteria to grow. Stress can also lead to breakouts, which is why it’s so important to make a couple of changes to prevent your skin from breaking out.

What Can You Do To Prevent Breakouts?

Change your moisturizer

Many of us might still be using the heavier moisturizer we used during the winter. During the summer months you don’t need as much moisturizer, so look for an oil-free moisturizer with matte ingredients. You don’t want your face to look greasy on purpose.

Sunblock

Don’t leave the house without applying sunblock. You don’t want your acne to flare up with the sun and cause even more irritation.

Change your makeup

Invest in a foundation that is creamy, light, and oil-free, many already have sunblock in it; you’ll kill two birds with one stone.

Clean your face

When you work out, the sweat pouring out can cause bacteria to spread. Clean your face with face wipes to avoid bacteria from spreading or shower with a body wash with salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide to avoid breakouts.

Exercise

Believe it or not, some acne can be caused by cortisol, your stress hormone. Exercise helps tame cortisol levels. At least 30 minutes of exercise a couple of times a week can help with the acne.

Eat right

You can get a lot from your diet. Eating a fiber rich diet with berries can not only be good for your skin, but it can help detoxify the body. Avoid processed foods high in saturated fats and trans fats that can increase sebum production. Take greasy foods out of your diet, your skin will thank you.
