Mental illness runs in her family since her father had both bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. She joined this campaign because she wants to encourage people to speak openly about their mental illness, to their doctor, family, and friends.

She is seeking treatment and is very happy. Her boyfriend Wilmer Valderrama has been a big part of her support group and he’s one of the people that have stuck by her during the difficult times. He’s also encouraged her to seek treatment because he wants the very best for her.

In an interview with People, she says: “It’s also about speaking up for your community,” she says, “which is taking action, whether it’s writing a letter to Congress and telling them how this is affecting you and your life and how you would like to see mental health care more accessible in your community. There’s so many different ways you can help. I think together as a country we have to step up and we have to do something about this issue that is becoming quite an epidemic.”

Last year she joined the Mental Health Listening & Engagement Tour. Check it out:
