Los Monitores Para Tomar La Presión En Casa Se Equivocan El 70%

 

Millones de personas mayores con frecuencia recurren a monitores para medir la presión arterial en casa que pueden utilizar ellas mismas, con el fin de controlar esa vital señal de la salud. Pero un pequeño nuevo estudio canadiense sugiere que las medidas de los dispositivos se equivocan la mayoría de las veces, y podrían poner a los pacientes en riesgo.

Un equipo liderado por Jennifer Ringrose, de la Universidad de Alberta en Calgary, evaluó docenas de monitores para el hogar utilizados por 85 pacientes de a partir de 66 años de edad.

Los investigadores encontraron que las unidades no eran precisas dentro de un rango de cinco mmHg de la presión arterial en aproximadamente un 70 por ciento de las veces. “Este estudio subraya por qué tratar la hipertensión resulta tan difícil”, dijo el Dr. Robert Courgi, especialista en la atención de la diabetes en el Hospital Southside de Northwell Health en Bay Shore, Nueva York.
