Los Turnos de 24 Horas Podrían Causar Problemas En El Corazón

La falta de sueño cuando se trabaja en turnos de 24 horas afecta a la función cardiaca, según sugiere un nuevo estudio alemán. “Estos hallazgos podrían ayudarnos a comprender mejor cómo afectan la carga de trabajo y la duración del turno a la salud pública”, dijo el investigador principal, el Dr. Daniel Kuetting, del departamento de diagnósticos y radiología intervencional de la Universidad de Bonn.

“Por primera vez, hemos mostrado que la privación de sueño a corto plazo en el contexto de los turnos de 24 horas puede llevar a un aumento significativo de la contractilidad cardiaca [el grado en que el músculo cardiaco se contrae], la presión arterial y la frecuencia cardiaca”, dijo Kuetting.woman working late

El estudio contó con 20 radiólogos en buen estado de salud con un promedio de edad de casi 32 años. Se evaluó la función cardiaca de los participantes antes y después del turno de 24 horas, en que durmieron un promedio de 3 horas.

Después del turno, los participantes mostraron cambios significativos en la presión arterial y la frecuencia cardiaca, junto con aumentos significativos en los niveles de ciertas hormonas. Una de estas hormonas, el cortisol, es liberada por el cuerpo en respuesta al estrés.
