Paulina Rubio, or “La chica dorada” as her fans call her, recently had a baby boy and the Mexican singer stays looking young (and slim) by adapting a healthy lifestyle and eating a vegetarian diet.

A vegetarian lifestyle consists of eating no meat and is based on cereals, legumes, fruits, and vegetables. Following a vegetarian diet is not an easy thing to do, but it has many health benefits. Eating too much meat regularly puts you at risk for not only obesity, but heart disease, diabetes and some cancers. This is why if you’re a meat-eater you have to limit the consumption of meat. Even if you’re not a vegetarian, it’s good to go meatless at least once a week and add fruits and vegetables to your daily meals.  Did we mention that eating vegetables and fruits makes for much better skin?

Paulina Rubio is an advocate for vegetarianism because it allows her to live a much better life. She tweeted once: “If you feel the need to eat a hamburger, eat it on toasted whole wheat bread, or you could substitute the bread altogether for lettuce!” Paulina follows these 5 rules to maintain her healthy lifestyle.

1) Drink lots of water all day, since our body is 75% water.

2) Eat fruits, veggies and salads regularly.

3) Go easy on the salt.

4) Try swapping sugar for pure substitutes, such as agave and honey.

5) If you’re going to eat carbohydrates, make them whole grains, the good kind.

Being a vegetarian allows people to not only be healthier, but gain insight into another way of eating. Most vegetarian meals have to be made at home, and that can give you better insight into the food you cook. Now you know the secret to Paulina Rubio’s fountain of youth!
