Women spend hundreds of dollars on beauty products. They spend money on makeup, lotions, face creams and even hair removal services, such as waxing, plucking, and threading. One of the most popular services we see is the threading of the face, which threads off unwanted facial hair. But, why do women get excessive facial hair? It might actually be a sign of a health issue, which is why it’s so important not to ignore those weird hairs that are suddenly appearing on your chin.
Male Hormones
A hormone imbalance might be the source of the problem. Women produce small amounts of male hormones called androgens and when they produce too much of this hormone, it causes women to grow hair in unwanted places. Women that have thick chin hairs, might have an overabundance of this male hormone.
Cushing Hormone
Another hormonal imbalance is Cushing syndrome, which develops when a woman is exposed to high levels of cortisol, which often happens when they start taking steroids. Many times it’s the medications that people take for other conditions that cause excess facial hair. Medication to treat arthritis, asthma, thyroid problems could be the cause of excess facial hair.
