Casi Un 40% Siguen Sin Seguro Medico

Los investigadores llegaron a sus conclusiones tras examinar los datos de encuestas federales de casi 2.7 millones de personas, llevadas a cabo de 2005 a 2015.

Encontraron que un 44 por ciento de la población de EE. UU. vive en los suburbios. Un 15 por ciento de los residentes suburbanos carecían de seguro, y más o menos un tercio no recibían un examen anual. Los suburbanitas pobres eran más propensos (un 42 por ciento) de prescindir del examen anual.

health insurance studyLas tasas de cobertura de seguro en los suburbios sí aumentaron cuando la Ley del Cuidado Médico a Bajo Precio (Affordable Care Act) se promulgó en 2010, pero no al mismo ritmo que en las áreas urbanas y rurales.

“En la mayoría de los estudios, las áreas suburbanas se agrupan con las áreas urbanas. Pero los suburbios son zonas geográficas únicas con problemas específicos para el acceso a la atención de la salud”, enfatizó Schnake-Mahl.

“Ofrecer servicios y atención a la población suburbana pobre quizá amerite políticas distintas que las que en general se utilizan en las áreas urbanas o rurales”, añadió.

El estudio aparece en la edición de octubre de la revista Health Affairs.
