Christina Aguilera has a voice like no other. Unfortunately, as a young lady, her voice was silenced by domestic violence. In an interview with U.S. Magazine, the singer opened up about her experience with violence in her home, caused by her father. In the U.S. 1 Iin 3 men, 1 in 4 men and more than 3 million children are impacted by domestic violence.

“It’s a subject that really hits home wth me because I’ve always been pretty vocal and open about my own experiences in witnessing domestic violence in the home and neighboring homes around me, so it was something that was pretty constant in my younger upbringing,” said Christina Aguilera.
Like many Latinas, she says this is a hush-hush subject that no one likes talking about. “It makes people uncomfortable and there’s a lot of shame around it,” she explains. This is why it’s so important for her to share what she’s experienced with domestic violence and at the same time help others.
Aguilera partnered with Hopeline, a prevention and awareness organization for victims of domestic violence. Hopeline and Verizon teamed up to support domestic violence organizations that help prevent, educate and empower victims and survivors.
