Mustard: Good To Eat and In Your Bath

Many of us like mustard on our hotdogs, sandwiches, polish sausage, hamburgers, and brats, but did you know that athletes use mustard baths to relax their muscles? Others who live in really cold weather know that the cold leaves your body feeling stiff and tired. The constant change in weather can make you feel tired and without any energy and baths in general can help.

In the U.S. we live fast-paced lives where we take quick ten-minute showers. We associate baths with girly perfumed salts and bubbles, but baths are actually really good for you. They can help detoxify, relax tight muscles, make your skin feel smooth and hydrated, as well help you relax after a long day.

These baths can also help with a cold, fever and congestion. They can help with sleepiness and the mustard and essential oils help open pores, letting you sweat out any impurities detoxifying your body.

What’s In the Mustard?

If mustard is good enough to eat, then it should be good enough to put on your body. Below are some of the nutrients that your regular mustard has:

Calcium

Each tablespoon of yellow mustard contains 9 mg of calcium. We need calcium to build strong bones and it also contributes to muscle and nerve function, which is why when you get a mustard bath, it helps relax your muscles.

Magnesium

Each tablespoon of mustard contains 7 mg of magnesium. Your body needs this nutrient for processing and using energy, so after a mustard bath it can make you feel re-energized.

Potassium

Each tablespoon of yellow mustard contains 21 mg of potassium. Magnesium contributes to your digestive health and helps your heart have a steady heart beat, allowing your muscles to contract properly.
