En un estudio realizado con animales, los investigadores utilizaron imágenes de resonancia magnética (IRM) dinámicas con contraste para ver la vía glinfática del cerebro. Se trata del sistema que elimina los desechos y otras sustancias nocivas del cerebro, igual que la forma en que el sistema linfático elimina los desechos de los órganos.

Los investigadores encontraron que el desecho del cerebro se eliminaba de la forma más efectiva cuando se dormía de lado, en lugar de boca arriba o boca abajo.
