Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio is named the new pope

Time Magazine has named Pope Francis it’s ‘Person of the Year.’ The publication credits the Argentina native with making great strides in changing public perception of the Catholic church.

The magazine sites his humility calling him “The People’s Pope” and also cites his use of technology “He makes masterly use of 21st century tools to perform his 1st century office.”

Time goes on to say: “What makes this Pope so important is the speed with which he has captured the imaginations of millions who had given up on hoping for the church at all.”

An interesting fact about the Latin American born Pope Francis is that he has one fully working lung. In his younger years, Pope Francis had a section of an infected lung removed. However, this did not inhibit his duties and doctors say that it probably won’t affect him anywhere in his future.
