Pregnant Women
In many Latin American countries and even in India, pregnant women are advised to protect themselves from a solar eclipse. In some Latin American countries they are told to wear red underwear or a red ribbon on their belly’s which will protect their unborn child from being born with defects. In India, women are not even allowed to eat, drink or even come out from their homes because an eclipse can harm a fetus. There is no scientific evidence that this is true, but many elders strongly believe to be better safe than sorry.
Energy
People also believe that a solar eclipse can destroy your good energy. In fact, they believe that exposing yourself to the eclipsed rays of the sun can damage your good fortune energies in their aura from the time the eclipse happens until their next birthday. They believe that eating coconut will absorb the negative energies.
For most of these claims there isn’t any scientific evidence, other than you can get solar retinopathy and ruin your vision. We recommend that if you are going to take a look outside at a solar eclipse, you use special glasses. As far as the other beliefs, we leave it up to you.
