Smoking is an expensive addiction, but what most people that smoke don’t know is the many effects it has on the body. If you’ve recently quit smoking, this is great news because the longer you keep smoking, the bigger the health risks:

  • Face: Smoking can cause your skin to dry and give you wrinkles.
  • Eyes: Nicotine restricts the production of a chemical necessary for you to see at night and long-term smoking can lead to blindness and loss of night vision.
  • Mouth: Many smokers have oral health problems, like yellow teeth, mouth sores, ulcers, gum disease and cavities, not to mention the loss of teeth at a young age.
  • Ears: Smoking reduces the oxygen supply to the cochlea in the inner ear, which can cause hearing loss.
  • Heart: It raises your blood pressure and adds pressure to your heart, which can weaken it and make your blood sticky which makes it thicker making you prone to blood clots that block the blood flow to your heart, brain, and legs. It can also increase the amount of cholesterol and unhealthy fats circulating in the blood, creating fatty deposits.
  • Lungs: Smoking causes inflammation in the small airways and tissues of your lungs. This can make you short of breath and continued inflammation can lead to more serious damage, which can make breathing difficult. It can lead to emphysema, cilia, and respiratory problems.
