How Restaurants Make You Overeat & Even Make You Spend More

Couple looking at menu in restaurant

People love visiting restaurants and ordering some of their favorite dishes for a variety of reasons, they don’t know how to cook, they don’t want to cook, to celebrate a special occasion, or just because they’re craving that specific dish. Yet, what most people don’t realize is that restaurants are constantly marketing to your thirst for hunger and once they get you inside they use several techniques to get you to order bigger quantities and spend more.

Restaurants are great at making you crave food, especially when the waiter or waitress read you the specials or rush you to order fast. There are certain words, ingredients, and behaviors that restaurants use to not only rush you out so that they can accommodate more people, but also make you shed more money.

restaurant tricks spend money

These are just a couple of ways that restaurants make you spend more and by doing so, they also make you overeat. One of the best things you could do for your wallet and waistline is to go to a restaurant with a gameplan. Check out reviews on Yelp and Google ahead of time, especially if you haven’t been there before. More than likely there are tons of reviews with photos of the food, which will not only steer you in the right way as far as how the food looks, but also portion control.

Check out their online menu and have an idea of what you would like to order. If you’re lucky, you will find a picture of the dish you’re interested in. Another thing you may want to do before heading out to a restaurant is to have a light snack, in many cases when you don’t have a reservation, you may have to wait at least an hour to get seated, then 30-40 minutes for your food to be prepared. When you have a light snack, you won’t be as hungry and you won’t make rash decisions and order too much. Be on the lookout for these things which will help you be a much more savvier foodie.
