It’s World Suicide Prevention Day: Reach Out & Save a Life

A video of an off duty police officer helping a man that was hanging off the edge of a bridge ready to take a plunge is going viral because it’s a moment of compassion and a reminder of how we all have to help each other. September 10 marks World Suicide Prevention Day, which raises awareness on the pain people face with mental health issues. Just like this officer, it’s important to offer a hand and reach out to people when they are in need in order to prevent them from committing suicide.

If you are faced with an emergency, don’t hesitate and call 9-11. You can also call the Suicide prevention Hotline at 1-800-273-TALK. Look for a mental health professional, such as a psychiatrist, psychologist, social worker or a counselor. People are willing to help, you just have to reach out and make sure you get that person the help they need as soon as possible.
