It’s true that our mental health is affected by the change of seasons, but there are ways to get through the transition of the seasons and convert that depression into productive and happier times.

Many people think the fall is a sad season because they see the leaves from trees falling and they think they’re dying. The process of leaves changing is actually pretty interesting. Plants use sunlight to turn water and carbon dioxide into oxygen and glucose. Just like we do, plants use glucose as food for energy and to grow. The way plants turn water and carbon dioxide into oxygen and sugar is called photosynthesis, or putting together with light.
It’s important to understand why this happens to the trees. Just like they are affected by the lack of sunlight, so are we. But that doesn’t mean that they are dying, they are just taking some time off. The trees are just hibernating, preparing for winter and we should too.
Enjoy the Fall
There are many fun activities that happen during the fall, such as harvest festivals, apple picking, concerts, Halloween and much more. One of the things that helps people be in a better mood is planning ahead. Use technology to your advantage. Think about all of the activities that you might enjoy, and do a search for events near you. There is always something going on that you and your family can enjoy. Look at websites online, their social media pages and mark them in your calendars so you won’t forget. Being outside in the fall is fun and it will help keep your mind out of the ordinary and daily routine.
Reach out to friends or family and meet up. Sometimes talking to others and enjoying activities together can help relieve stress. You don’t have to do much, even getting out of the house or taking a nature walk will help clear your mind. Exercise is also very important because it pumps up your endorphins, which in turn puts you in a better mood.
Meditating and spending time doing things that you enjoy is a must. Do things that make you happy. When you feel stressed, do breathing techniques that will help you calm the tension. If you like color, then add color to your home. Buy or make some seasonal decorations. Sometimes we drive by homes that are beautifully decorated and that makes us smile. Just imagine what it would do to your mood if you make your home, your space a more lively space.
There are many things that you can do to not fall into the seasonal blues. It’s hard, but if you keep your mind active and plan ahead, you will get out of that funk that makes you sad. Get out and enjoy the beauty of the seasons before it’s too late!
