No More Dark Ashy Knees and Elbows!

Both men and women can suffer from dry skin from time to time. Unfortunately, we are not born with perfect skin and we have to give it maintenance every day. Sometimes we forget and can develop black ashy skin especially in the elbows and knees.

Some people take for granted the importance of moisturizing, but it’s important to do so every day, even in the hot weather. Drinking plenty of water can improve the quality of your skin, but don’t forget to moisturize. People develop rough, darkened knees and elbows because of dead skin cells.

Elbow skin is naturally thicker than other parts of your body and you lose moisture faster, which is why you should never forget to moisturize. If you have the habit of leaning on your elbows or have to be on your knees for an extended period of time, this too can roughen the skin and make it rough.

If you’ve tried every type of moisturizer you could think of and nothing is working, try this:

Turmeric

Mix turmeric powder with milk and honey, use enough to make a thick paste and apply it to your dark spots for 20 minutes.

Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is a superfood and it’s both great to eat and to use on your skin. Apply before going to bed or apply after taking a shower so that your skin is soft and use a pumice stone to exfoliate.ThinkstockPhotos-466175634

Lemon

Lemon has a million uses and by simply applying lemon juice to your dark elbows or knees for 45 minutes, you can get rid of that rough skin.

Yogurt

The lactic acid in yogurt helps lighten your skin color, it also cleanses the area and moisturizes your skin. You can make a paste out of 1 teaspoon of plain yogurt and vinegar, leave for 20 minutes and then rinse off.

Baking Soda

Baking soda can help remove dead skin cells and lighten your skin at the same time. Make a paste out of 1 tablespoon of milk and baking soda. Apply to the affected areas and rub it in for 2 to 3 minutes then wash it off. Repeat every other day.

Aloe Vera

We use Aloe in various moisturizers, but did you know it could also lighten your skin? It can help maintain an even skin tone and repair skin cells. Use fresh Aloe Vera and apply it to your knees or elbows, keep it on for 20 minutes, then rinse off.
