Mariah Carey has always struggled with her weight and last month she underwent gastric sleeve surgery just weeks before her Christmas primetime performance.
Sleeve gastrectomy is a surgical weight-loss procedure in which the stomach is reduced to about 15% of its original size, by surgical removal of a large portion of the stomach along the greater curvature.
A source close to Mariah Carey says that she got the gastric sleeve surgery because her weight always fluctuates and it makes the singer upset. “She lives in denial about it; she has the tags cut out of her clothes, so she can be blissfully unaware of her size.”
The gastric sleeve surgery shrinks the size of the stomach so that patients eat less. According to ET Online, the source says that Carey feels so much better about herself.
The “All I Want For Christmas” singer will finish up her Las Vegas residency in March of 2018, but she doesn’t need to worry much about her finances since according to The Economist, that song reaps her $60 million in royalties since the 1994 release.
