Alejandra Guzmán’s father, Enrique Guzmán was taken to the emergency room this weekend for a gastrointestinal problem. Last December he had a surgery to remove part of his intestine. He was vacationing in Cancun, Mexico and was rushed to the hospital after complaining about stomach pains. There are a number of health problems that lead to the removal of part of the large intestine.

The large intestine or colon connects the small intestine to the anus, where stool passes through the large bowel. There are a couple of diseases why someone might have part of their large bowel removed:
Neoplasm: Abnormal mass off tissue that could be cancerous
Diverticulitis: Inflammatory disease that causes the lining of the intestine to become inflamed.
Crohn’s disease: A chronic inflammatory bowel disease that affects the lining of the digestive tract.
Colon cancer or Polyps: Polyps could be found in the colon or rectum, which could be cancerous.

Most of the problems associated with the large intestine come from years of the same unhealthy lifestyle. Many times when we are young we eat things that can irritate our large intestine and not really have any problems, until we are older. These are some of the things that you could do in order to prevent any gastrointestinal problems in the future:
- Eat more fiber
- Limit greasy foods
- Limit spicy food
- Limit dairy products, especially if you are lactose intolerant
- Eat more green vegetables
- Eat small meals
- Eat less red meat
- Drink plenty of water
- Lower your stress levels
- Exercise
Enrique Guzmán is said to be better and out of intensive care. According to Tv y Novelas, the singer had problems with a bacteria, which is why they removed part of his intestine, where they also found polyps. This surgery was scheduled for a later time, but since he suffered pain, he had emergency surgery. Guzmán who is 72 years old will continue to seek treatment, but he’s doing much better.
