#HashtagLunchBags Is Helping Feed The Hungry & Spreading Love

National Tequila Day is a great excuse to drink up and eat great food, yet, there are many that don’t have the luxury of celebrating these types of events. Fortunately, there are good people out there like the non-for-profit #HashtagLunchBag who found a way to feed the hungry and what started as a small project among friends took off and is helping feed people around the globe.

The Infatuation, Tequila Don Julio, and #HashtagLunchbag got together at Antique Taco for an#AgaveandEEEEEATS private dinner series allowing us to partake in a great event curated by Chef Diego Cruz and bartender Ashley Lemasters fromAntique Taco. Guests sampled delicious ceviche, Don Julio margaritas, lamb birria, chiles en nogada with mushrooms, tequila tastings, and even raspados with chamoy.

One of the highlights of the night, apart from the great food and drinks, was learning about #HashtagLunchbag which is non-profit that is using social media to feed the less fortunate. We had the opportunity to speak with Will Smith at the event who helped start this movement and organization. He explains that he and a couple of friends were looking for a fun and meaningful way to give back, so they decided to make some lunches and visited the Santa Monica Pier and Venice Boardwalk to distribute the lunches to those that needed them.

As you can imagine it was a great experience, so they decided to post their efforts on social media and as you can imagine, it gained a lot of support. People were asking them how they could contribute to the next event and since then they’ve hosted lunch bag events across the country and have even sparked interest in other countries, so they’ve now gone global!

One of the unique things about what they’re doing is that they encourage participants and volunteers to write personalized notes to show that they really care, showing an act of love.

How can you help? They have upcoming events and if you live in Chicago, there’s one coming up on July 29th. Visit www.HashtagLunchbag.org to volunteer or donate to this great cause.
