Andrea Legarreta has been absent from the show Hoy where she is a presenter and we finally know why. The presenter took to Instagram to share about the personal health issue that she’s been dealing with, called the “purple disease” and the good news is that it is curable.

“I have a health complication. Even though it’s complicated and difficult, thank god it’s curable,” said Legarreta on Instagram. “I’m doing well, I’m improving. See I even look nice for you guys and have a great attitude, super good energy.” She’s currently undergoing treatment for this condition and right now the doctors are waiting to see how her body is reacting to the treatment, but everything seems to be going in the right direction.

The purple disease or immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) is a blood disorder characterized by an abnormal decrease in the number of platelets in the blood. According to the Standford Children’s Hospital, the platelets are cells in the blood that help stop bleeding. A decrease in platelets that happens with this disease can result in easy bruising, bleeding gums, and internal bleeding.

Symptoms

-Purpura. This is the purple color of the skin after blood has “leaked” under it. A bruise is blood under the skin. Patients with ITP may have large bruises from no known trauma. Bruises can appear at the joints of elbows and knees just from movement.

-Petechia. Tiny red dots under the skin that are a result of very small bleeds.

-Nosebleeds

-Bleeding in the mouth and/or in and around the gums

-Blood in the vomit, urine, or stool

-Bleeding in the head. This is the most dangerous symptom of ITP. Any head trauma that occurs when there are not enough platelets to stop the bleeding can be life-threatening.

It seems like Legarreta has been going through a rough time, but her positive attitude and support from her fans, family, and friends has helped her cope during this difficult time. She also shares photos from the hospital surrounded by her hubby, Erik Rubin, as well as kids, and family and friends. Wishing her a speedy recovery!
