Yoga pants. We see them at the park, the grocery store, the movie theatre, and even while dropping off kids at school. Yoga pants have become a topic of discussion lately because they’re so comfy and women wear them pretty much everywhere. Recently a man penned a letter to the Barrington Times in Rhode Island complaining about women who wear yoga pants. This of course caused outrage and women in yoga pants paraded through the Rhode Island town celebrating their love for yoga pants and their love for their bodies.
Are Yoga Pants Really That Bad?
The good part…
Women love yoga pants because they are versatile. You can wear them at the gym, or while running errands. They are great when your jeans feel extra tight during that time of the month. You can wear them with a t-shirt, sweatshirt, or tunic, so you can literally wear them all day long—they are very versatile. They need no ironing, and take little to no space in your closet.
Now to the bad stuff…
Yoga pants are great for working out and if you do work out with them and sweat, then it might be good idea to take them off. Wearing yoga pants for an extended period of time can invite bacteria and fungus to grow, causing yeast infections, zits and even rashes down there. Folliculitis is the inflammation of the hair follicle that can come from damage or blocking of follicles, which happens when you wear tight clothes, which can also cause chaffing.
Our recommendation is to practice good hygiene. Yes yoga pants are super comfy, but they shouldn’t be worn all day, everyday. It’s ok to wear yoga pants to work out, to run errands, and even to drop off your kids. But, if you’re going to workout in your yoga pants, make sure you wash them often and that they’re not that tight. Your skin needs to breathe and buying a good pair of yoga pants might not only make you look better, but the quality of material also can make a difference.
