“I’m obsessed with them. I drink the juice from the jar too,” she told UK newspaper, The Mirror. “I go to the movies and have popcorn and pickles.” She enjoys pickle juice on her popcorn.

When we think about pickles, we don’t think about this being a healthy snack since they are floating in pickle juice that could be high in sodium and added sugars. Yet, many people claim that there are health benefits to eating pickles and even say that they can help with weight loss.

What’s in a pickle?

Most pickles have salt, vinegar and seasoning, which might pack in the calories and the sodium. On average a cucumber pickle can contain from 1 to 35 calories and almost no fat or cholesterol, but they are high in sodium, about a third of your daily recommended intake.

Cucumbers are a healthy source of fiber; they also contain small amounts of potassium, vitamin C and vitamin K. They have natural antioxidants that can protect against heart disease and even cancer.

Pickles are a great snack, but of course in moderation. Many people add pickles to flavor their food and replace high fat ingredients like mayonnaise. If you’re worried about the sodium, you can try making them at home because they’re actually pretty easy to make and that way you’ll have control over the amount of sodium levels.
