We eat fruits and vegetables to detox our bodies, drink plenty of water to flush out toxins,  get facials to cleanse our skin, but what about other parts of our bodies? Many of us have never heard of an armpit detox, but with all the chemicals in conventional deodorants, it’s something to think about.

These deodorants and anti-perspirants contain a variety of chemicals. One of the things we don’t realize is that whatever touches our skin can be absorbed into our bodies and enter our bloodstream.

When we go shopping for deodorants we don’t really think about chemicals. We think about it smelling nice and our body odor. Except most conventional deodorants contain aluminum chlorohydrate, the main active ingredient whose purpose is to keep you from sweating and reduces underarm wetness.

If you’re going to do an armpit detox it’s better to buy an aluminum-free deodorant that consist of therapeutic grade essential oils and have all natural ingredients. Many times our underarms get irritated and it may be an allergic reaction from the toxic chemicals that prevent our underarms from releasing the toxins trapping them inside.

Organic deodorants are made from all natural ingredients, such as coconut, organic beeswax, Shea butter, and floral scents. When you switch to a natural deodorant your glands and pores start to unclog, open up and function better. Your skin will react to a natural deodorant by releasing build up and toxins, which is why your odor may increase, but that’s o.k. That’s part of the process.

It’s wise to test a couple of deodorants for at least a week to decide if it’s right for you. Before you change deodorants, prepare your armpits by using a loofah on your armpits or dry-brush your armpit skin to loosen up buildup. Take a hot shower or go to a sauna to sweat, your armpits release amino acids, so when you do this there might be a build up of mucous released.

According to Wellness Mama you can detox our armpits and remove odor, as well as help remove chemical build-up in armpit skin and tissue. It’s very easy:

1 tablespoon of bentonite clay

1 teaspoon of apple cider vinegar

1 to 2 teaspoons of water

Just mix the ingredients in a glass bowl and plastic or wooden spoon, not metal. Spread over your armpits and leave for a couple of minutes.
