Sclera tattoos are becoming more popular, which consists of getting the white part of the eye colored but experts advise against it. These types of tattoos are extremely dangerous and can cause you to go blind. The same goes for Halloween decorative lenses, which are often sold online.
Catt Gallinger had a sclera tattoo on her right eye and after the procedure, a purple liquid began to ooze out of her eye. She received medical treatment and her doctor prescribed antibiotic and steroid drops, but the ink settled around the cornea of her eye and now she’s at risk of going blind in that eye. “I am NOT sharing this with you to cause trouble,” she wrote. “I am sharing this to warn you to research who you get your procedures by as well as how the procedure should be properly done,” she says.
With Halloween right around the corner, there are many people that go the extra mile to complete their costume and use decorative contact lenses. Many of these lenses can be bought online, but they can do permanent damage too. People are buying these online or over the counter and some even come with labels that say they are safe to wear, but the U.S. Food and Drug Administration have not approved them. The only safe way to get a pair of these is with a prescription in order to avoid injury. When you get contact lenses, your eye doctor measures your eye so it properly fits, but a poor fit can scratch the cornea, give you pink eye, corneal infection, decreased vision, and even blindness.
