American Authors Drummer, Matt Sanchez is Celebrating a Milestone

American Authors drummer, Matt Sanchez turns 30 today! Just like every other 30 year, old Sanchez must be feeling the pressure of reaching this milestone.  The song Best Day of My Life was inspired by the children’s book, “Where the Wild Things Are” and the band wrote that song when they were going through a difficult time.

In an interview with High Voltage, Matt Sanchez explains how the song that they’re known for actually came from a dark place. “Best Day of My Life actually came from a place of frustration with our lives at the time. We had been playing music together for years, we were struggling with jobs and money, and we were all living in a shitty apartment. If you listen to the lyrics, it’s really about escaping and falling into a dream world you never want to leave,” he says.

The band actually wrote that song in a day and they all thought it was strange and set it aside for a week. They didn’t really think it was special until some time later, and little did they know it was going to skyrocket their careers.

Sanchez has a great outlook on life and even when he has bad days, he tries to make the best of it. “No one can have every day of their lives being happy and amazing. It’s more important to accept the fact that we’re human and we will have bad days. Embrace the down, it makes the up much better,” he said.

Many people freak out when they turn 30, but it’s really just a number. You shouldn’t expect to achieve certain things by the time you’re 30. It’s o.k. if you don’t have kids or are married by 30, the world will not end. It is important to have goals in life and to work at achieving them, no matter how long it takes. Most importantly, don’t bum yourself out if you’re having a bad day. Remember that it’s only temporary and like Sanchez said: Embrace the down, it makes the up much better!
