Get Rid of Split Ends Once And For All!

Latinas are the envy of many because they have great hair, but having great hair is not plain luck or good genes. Your hair, just like your skin needs some love, so it’s important to know how to get rid of split ends once and for all.

Why Do We Get Split Ends?

Split ends are very common, especially on long locks. You have to remember that as your hair grows it ages and it loses its ability to hold moisture. This causes it to get dry and brittle, to break and to get split ends. Many times the things we do to our hair cause damage, such as

What Can You Do?

Proper hair care is the key to avoiding and keeping split ends away. One of the biggest mistakes people do is apply shampoo and conditioner directly on your scalp. This can cause build-up and create dandruff, which can also cause your hair to look dull, messy and dry. Make sure you apply shampoo and conditioner at the ends of your hair and work your way up, massaging your scalp. Plus you don’t want to clog up your hair follicles, which can prevent your hair from growing.

Depending on the type of hair that you have, you should buy a shampoo that works well with your hair. For example, if you have curly hair you should buy shampoo for curly hair that locks in moisture and gets rid of the frizz. If you have very thin hair, then you would benefit from shampoo with collagen that plumps your hair, making it look like you have more hair than you actually do.

A conditioner is very important, so don’t skip it.  Just like with shampoos, there is a variety of conditioners that you could use for the type of hair that you have. Look for specific ingredients, such as natural oils like Argan Oil and Coconut oil that help keep your hair shiny, moisturized and healthy. Try leaving the conditioner on for a couple of minutes, that way your hair has time to absorb the nutrients from your conditioner. There are also leave-in conditioners that you can try that work well to give your hair the added boost of nutrients it needs.

If you blow-dry, curl or straighten your hair, you have to use a heat-protection spray. Excessive heat to your hair can not only cause split ends but if you don’t add protection, you could easily burn your hair or dry out your hair, many times causing it to fall off. The same thing goes for when you dye your hair yourself or professionally. You also need color protection, otherwise, it can cause the color to fade and get dry really fast and get split ends.

In order to keep your hair looking healthy, it’s important to visit your hair stylist every 2 to 3 months. Many times the easiest way to tell if you need a haircut is to run your fingers through your hair and if they don’t travel easily and you find too many knots, then that’s your split ends talking to you. You can easily pick up strands of hair and see the split ends. It’s best if you do a short trim, that way your hair will continue to grow. Make sure you get a deep-conditioning treatment in order to keep your hair looking great.
