Costco E.Coli Outbreak Continues to Spread|Who’s To Blame?

The recent E.Coli outbreak that started at Costco pointed to chicken as the culprit, but investigators from the Food and Drug Administration announced today that celery is the one to blame. The E.coli scare, which started at Costco, has spread to more than a dozen states and over 150,000 products sold at major food chains, such as Walmart, Target, 7-Eleven and even Starbucks.

The name of the company is called Taylor Farms Pacific Inc. from Tracy, California. They recalled a mix of diced celery and onion used in a Costco chicken salad and other foods containing celery as a necessary precaution. The FDA released a list of products that have been affected on their website.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 19 people from across 6 states have reported feeling sick, ages 5 to 84. The Shiga toxin-producing E.Coli can be life threatening, but no deaths have been reported. Even though, 5 people have been hospitalized, including two with kidney failure.

Symptoms of E.Coli

Health officials urge anyone with these symptoms, especially those that have eaten Costco chicken salad, to visit their doctor immediately. They expect the number of people sickened by this outbreak to grow within the next few weeks, even though the product has been removed from the shelves.
