CDC Pinpoints Leading Cause of Death by State

Want to know what the leading cause of death is in the state you live in? Sounds kind of eerie, but now you can. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention released a list of the common cause of death in the every state in the U.S. The list shows which diseases have the highest mortality rates for each state, compared to the national average.

 What Are the Leading Causes of Death in the U.S.?

 

  1. Heart Disease
  2. Cancer
  3. Chronic Lower Respiratory Diseases
  4. Accidents
  5. Stroke
  6. Alzheimer’s Disease
  7. Diabetes
  8. Influenza and Pneumonia
  9. Nephritis
  10. Suicide

 

The National Center of Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion, which is part of the CDC included deaths that took place during the period of 10 years. The study classified the underlying causes of death, as wll as secondary causes of death that might have impacted the primary cause of death.

 

The goal of this study and this map is to pinpoint where the diseases exist and to figure out what some of the factors may be. It’s a conversation starter that generates hypotheses that explores the data found.
