Have you ever felt dizzy while standing or sitting in the driver’s seat while driving. It’s a scary feeling, but the cause of your vertigo can be something as simple as a common cold. Labyrinthitis can cause this dizziness or vertigo and it’s often spontaneous, so it can occur at any time.

Labyrinthitis is caused by a virus or bacteria, such as a cold, the flu, or an upper respiratory infection. Your inner ear has two functions, for hearing and balance. When you have Labyrinthitis, parts of your ear become irritated or swollen, which causes you hearing loss and dizziness. The vertigo you get from the common cold can last only a couple of days before it goes away on it’s own.

Tips to Stop The Dizziness

  1. Stop and focus your eyes on one object. By doing this you focus your eyes on a specific point and this stops the room from spinning in just seconds.
  2. Lie down for a couple of minutes, then sit up slowly before standing up completely.
  3. Sleep or take a nap if you can. Even after your cold has passed, resting will help prevent the dizzy attacks.
  4. Drink plenty of water because becoming dehydrated can increase lightheadedness.

If the dizziness persists or is accompanied by vomiting or fainting call your doctor because it might be something more serious.
