Winter Hair Growth Tips

Have you noticed that your hair grows slower in the winter than it does in the summer? Perhaps it’s the lack of sunshine (which is needed for hair growth) or maybe it’s just genetics. Both of these things affect your hair growth, but there are things that you can do to help improve hair growth.

Sunlight helps your body produce Vitamin D, which helps stimulate hair growth and even prevent hair loss. Since the days are shorter in the winter, most of us spend most of that time inside or covering our heads with hats, and don’t benefit from the benefits of sunlight.

What Can You Do?

Spending time outside even when it’s cold is great for your overall health. Plus, you only need about 10 minutes to reap the benefits. Take off your hat and enjoy the beauty of winter outside for a couple of minutes. But, if you’re just not that adventurous and you fear getting frostbite, then, try these hair growth tips that can give your hair the boost it needs:

Scalp massage: This is probably one of the easiest things that you can do to increase hair growth. Many times when you shampoo your hair you focus on the ends, but it’s also a good time to massage your roots.

Scalp treatment: Deep conditioning treatments are great because they help add moisture to your hair, but you can also request a scalp treatment. This is a great way to cleanse your hair and get rid of excess oils, as well as stimulate your hair follicles.

Rich protein diet: A protein rich diet keeps your body strong, but it’s also essential for hair growth. Add foods to your diet that are rich in vitamins A, B, C, and E, iron, zinc, copper, magnesium, and selenium. Foods such as milk, cheese, yogurt, chicken, eggs, avocado, oranges, carrots, bell peppers, and others.

Hair flopping: Hair plopping is the latest trend that promises the best curls: you plop your wet hair on a dry t-shirt, then wrap it in the t-shirt and when you remove it, you’re left with amazing curls. It turns out that flopping your hair upside down 2 to 4 minutes daily helps improve circulation and improves faster hair growth.

Hair mask: There are a variety of hair masks that help promote hair growth. One of the easiest to do includes castor oil mixed with coconut, olive, or almond oil. Castor oil is rich in vitamin E and has essential omega-9 fatty acids, which promote hair growth naturally. Massage the oil combo onto your scalp and massage it. Leave it in for 30 to 45 minutes, then shampoo your hair as normal.
