The Importance Of Nutrition For Losing Weight

A couple eats outdoorsGet to exercising, every one tells you. It’s good for you and you’ll lose weight while your at it. But for many of us, we end up doing exercise but not losing the pounds. Usually, that’s because nutrition, which accounts for a large part of obesity is overlooked and Latinos feel that if they exercise, it doesn’t matter what they eat, they’ll still slim down.

Unfortunately, that’s not true. In order to lose the weight you want as well as build muscle, you have to learn to eat right and stay away from the foods that cause that extra weight gain.

There are plenty of factors that we don’t realize that fall under the umbrella of proper nutrition, yet we seem to overlook the importance of it which causes further weight gain and less of the results you want. So here are some things that you should know to help you lose weight, feel great and keep you healthy.

1. Eat more frequently.

If you eat more frequently, your body is continuously working to burn off calories and fat. But you have to know which types of foods to eat. During the day, eat fruit or veggies that are easy to snack on, like celery, carrots, apples and pears. These calories are good for you and help to stimulate your metabolism. You need this so that you continuously burn calories and have energy throughout the day.

Choosing good calories that also have vitamins and nutrients help your body stay strong and ward off any types of illnesses. Make sure that the snack you eat is about 200 calories or less and stick to crunchy foods. The more you chew, the more satiated you are.

Other foods to snack on:  oranges, almonds, raisins, Melba toast and hummus.

2. Drink warm liquids after a work out.

Drinking something warm, like tea or coffee after a work out keeps you hunger at bay a little longer. Try to eat your meal after you have cooled down and showered. The warm liquid will also help your stomach tighten up, making you fuller with less food.

Make sure you eat though!

3. Eat breakfast.

You’ll notice that a few hours after eating breakfast, you’ll feel hungry again. That’s a good thing that tells you that your metabolism is working and will continue to work throughout the day. This is the perfect time to eat one of those 200 calorie snacks. Makes sure to mix up carbs and protein: the carbs give you energy and the protein keeps you feeling fuller longer to last you until lunch time.

Try eating eggs, peanut butter, whole grains, and fruit to jump start that metabolism first thing in the morning.

4. Eat more protein.

When you’re working out, protein is your best friend. Make sure to eat more protein than carbohydrates. Why? Protein has your body working for a longer period of time. While carbs are the first to be digested (break down starts in your mouth with saliva), protein are the second while fats are last. Protein also helps your muscles repair, especially if you’re working with weights and helps to rebuild them making them larger and firmer.
5. Hungry? Stock up on veggies.

Did you know that you can eat two cups of lettuce for only 20 calories? When you add more veggies to your plate, you are getting more nutrients and vitamins with less calories. Since veggies are made up of mostly water, they hydrate your body, fill you up and take up the space that bad foods would otherwise inhibit.

6. Remember: It takes only 20 days to make or break a habit.

When you’re trying to improve your diet, remember that you should try to do everything consecutively for 20 days. Your body will get used to it and need it. At the same time, cut out the white bread, the coke, candy and carbohydrate-heavy foods. Your body will thank you for it.

7. Keep a journal.

You don’t have to write anything in it other than what you ate for the day. When you write things down, you begin to realize what you’re consuming and start go change your habits. Also keep track of how many days you’ve gone without that can of coke or how many days it’s been since you’ve had processed sugar. You’ll feel proud of yourself when you realize that you’ve kept it going for over a week!
