No More Frizzy Hat Hair!

Winter is officially here, which means the beginning of the dreaded hat hair! Most women hate winter because it dries out their hair and when you wear a hat, you’re left with flat, staticky hair, which is not pretty. Fortunately, there are things you could do to make sure your hair looks healthy all through winter and you get rid of frizzy hat hair.

Healthy Hair

One of the first things you have to realize is that the cold winter weather, which includes wind, rain and snow can dry out your hair, make it frizzy, staticky or just a hot mess. This is why we recommend that you get a deep conditioning treatment once a week, if not at least once a month. This will lock in the moisture because things like the blowdryer and even the dry heat from your central heating dries out your hair. Using a humidifier might not only be a good idea to clear out your sinuses, but it also helps your hair keep its moisture.

Another thing you should do is minimize the amount of times you wash your hair. I know it’s hard not to wash your hair, especially for Latinas, since we can get an oily scalp. Two to three times a week can prevent your hair from drying out and making it brittle.

Visiting your hair stylist often is also a good idea, typically six to eight weeks. At the salon you can ask your stylist for a deep conditioning treatment and she can even put some vitamins in your hair. Even if you ask her to just cut off your split ends and even out your hairdo will make your hair look beautiful and healthy.

Frizzy Hat Hair

Now for the static in your hair, we have a couple of solutions. The first is to wrap your hair in a silk scarf before putting on your hat. This will protect your hair from the damage caused by the friction on your hair rubbing on your hat. Plus it cuts down on static. Another thing you can try is rub an unscented dryer sheet on your brush or comb or apply it as a mask directly on your hair.

In order to tame your hair prior to putting on your hat, make sure you lock in the volume and style with a root volumizer or a root lifting hair product. Since hats trap heat, the volumizer will help your hair to look less flat and frizzy when you remove your hat. As a last resort, you can try putting your hair in a braid if it’s long enough or just carry some travel size product and fix it real quick.

The healthier your hair is the better it will look. Make sure you keep it moisturized and try these hacks to see which one works best on your hair type.
