Pains of Stress

At one point or another everyone faces some type of stress. A couple of years I lost my job and every night when I went to sleep I would lay there and my arms would start to hurt. It was an excruciating pain like if someone was pulling my arms out of the socket. I complained to my father and he said that nothing was wrong with me, that it was stress. I didn’t feel stressed and didn’t want to admit it, but after I heard him say that the pain went away.

Physical and Emotional Signs of Stress

Sometimes stress is emotional, but sometimes it comes in the form of pain. Unfortunately, when we are stressed we don’t want to admit that we need help and claim to have everything under control. Worrying about things and stressing out is not good for the mind or body. If you have pains you can’t quite put your finger on why– it might be stress-related:

  1. Tired all the time
  2. Muscle tension or pain
  3. Upset stomach
  4. Up all night
  5. Lack of focus
  6. Sad or depressed
  7. Overeating
  8. Angry outbursts
  9. Headache
  10. Change in sex drive

De-stress Your Everyday Life

Stress can cause mental and emotional pains, as well as physical tension because you are worrying too much. There are several ways to de-stress and here are a couple of tips to help alleviate the stress in your life:

Listen to music: Listening to soothing music can slow down your breathing and heart rate, therefore lowering your blood pressure and even helping you relax those tense muscles.

Eat chocolate: Chocolate can increase serotonin, which is brain chemical responsible for feelings of calmness and relaxation.

Drink green tea: This tea contains theanine, an amino acid that promotes relaxation.

Exercise: Something as simple as going for a walk can increase your endorphins, improve your mood, and you can even meditate while exercising, helping you relieve tension.
