Artists Remember Renowned Pianist, José Lugo Who Died From Cancer

Pianist, José Lugo has lost his battle against cancer at just 56 years of age. The Puerto Rican pianist won 8 Grammy’s during his musical career. He was part of the Guasábara Combo and worked alongside Gilberto Santa Rosa, Bobby Valentin, Willie Rosario and other salsa greats.

Lugo’s son, Josema Lugo broke the news of his father’s passing saying that he was a “tireless fighter that fought for his life until the last minute.” “His orchestra Guasábara Combo will always be in our hearts and they will continue to uphold his name always,” he said.

“The musical family woke up this morning with the sad news of the death of the maestro José Lugo,” said Gilberto Santa Rosa on Twitter. Lugo worked with El Caballero de la Salsa on some of his biggest hits. “My deepest condolences for his family. Prayers for the eternal rest of his soul, and my gratitude for the great impact he had on my career. Rest in peace, Lugüito.”
