When Eva was a girl, she slept in pajamas. It was the norm in his family and culture. However, as she grew older, she began to sweat excessively due to tight clothing and had difficulty falling asleep.
One day, a friend told her to try sleeping without clothes on. Although the concept seemed odd, she experienced a remarkable improvement in her sleep quality. The weeks and months passed, and Eva got used to sleeping naked without the irritating skin and rashes the synthetic materials in his pajamas brought about.
The initiation of a new habit was not unnoticed by her coworkers. Several people considered it to be scandalous, while others admired her courage. Eva loved how she felt each morning: full of vitality, confidence, creativity, and satisfaction beyond his wildest dreams.
There is little scientific research studying the effects of “naked sleep” nor reliable data on the percentage of men and women who sleep naked. However, some studies offer an overview of the potential benefits.
According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, adults should get at least seven hours of sleep each night, but one-third sleep less. Lack of sleep increases the risk of heart disease and diabetes, among other problems. If sleeping in the nude helps with the recommended seven to eight hours of sleep each night, then it’s worth a try.
The optimal room temperature for sleeping is between 66 and 70 degrees Fahrenheit (ca. 21 °C). For this reason, sleeping naked helps the body reach a cool temperature more quickly and promotes better sleep.
Skin health. When you are tired and don’t get enough sleep, your skin is more likely to have wrinkles and dark circles under your eyes. Delayed or reduced sleep affects the skin’s ability to heal injuries, such as cuts or blisters. More rest gives the skin the time to regenerate and repair possible damages. That said, no studies show how sleeping naked impacts the skin.
Male fertility. Sleeping naked impacts male fertility. One research suggests wearing tight underwear increases scrotal temperature, which decreases vitality and sperm count. Other research indicates that the cooling associated with sleeping naked increases sperm health.

Relationships and self-esteem. Couples who sleep naked and spend time practicing skin-to-skin contact release the hormone oxytocin. This feel-good hormone promotes security and love while reducing anxiety and stress. A shower before bedtime is a good idea to keep the sheets cleaner for longer. Sleep in just a t-shirt or underwear the first few nights to adjust to the feeling of wearing less clothing. It’s all a process; don’t start sleeping completely naked until you feel comfortable.
If you live with roommates or feel that sleeping naked is not for you, look for sleepwear made of natural fibers such as wool, silk, or cotton. Wool helps you fall asleep faster than synthetics, which are uncomfortable or trap too much heat against your body.
1—Regulates body temperature. When we sleep, our body lowers its temperature to rest better. Wearing pajamas or bedding hinders the body’s cooling process, which causes us to wake up more often at night.
2—Promotes better personal hygiene. If we sleep with clothes on, they accumulate bacteria, sweat, and dead skin cells, which cause irritations and foul odors.
3—Improves sleep quality. Some studies have shown that sleeping naked reduces stress and increases the emotional and physical support we receive from our partners.
4—Reduces infections. By sleeping naked, the genital area is kept drier and more ventilated, thus preventing bacterial infections. Moisture and heat trapped in underwear create an environment conducive to the growth of unwanted microorganisms.
5—Ventilate the skin. Sleeping without clothes prevents the skin from breathing, ventilating correctly, and accumulating sweat, oils, and dead skin cells, reducing the risk of irritations, acne, and rashes.
6—Stimulates blood circulation. By not having restrictions on movement and circulation during sleep, sleeping naked promotes better blood circulation. Good circulation is essential for cardiovascular health and the proper delivery of oxygen and nutrients to the tissues. Noteworthy: Everyone is different and has individual preferences for sleeping comfort. When sharing a bed with someone, it’s essential to respect their choices and come to mutual agreements so that both parties can be comfortable.
