Christina Milian is Helping Stop Attacks of Domestic Violence

Domestic violence is something that happens very often in the Latino culture. One in three women have experienced domestic violence and unfortunately it’s something that they keep quiet, so those numbers might actually be bigger. Christina Milian recently opened up about her experience with domestic violence on her show, Christina Milian Turned Up.

The actress and singer is helping promote an app called Stop Attack, which is an emergency assault app. When the app is activated it becomes a virtual witness to assaults. It records video and audio recordings, which are sent to a secured cloud storage location in real time. Even if the attacker breaks your phone, those recordings could be accessed later and used as evidence.

“I remember he instilled that fear in you that if you left him he would hurt us and because of that you stayed in it. But like to the point where you almost lost for your life,” said Milian’s mother. It was difficult to witness what her daughter was going through. “You had bruises and you were covering them up all the time. It was the hardest thing to go through, was watching you…it’s been so long since I thought about it.”

Milian sat with a domestic violence author and journalist, Tanya Williams and discussed some more painful details, saying that when you’re in abusive relationship, you’re fighting for your life every day. “He literally put a bullet in the gun and pointed it at my face. Staring down the barrel of a gun is the scariest thing you could ever experience. It’s not funny; it’s not for the movies. There’s a chance of life or death in one click, that’s it.”

Milian is encouraging her followers to use the hashtag #StopAttackChallenge and post photos with messages written on the palm of their hands with what they want stopped in the world on social media. When someone is a victim of domestic violence, the scars never heal and even though she’s found solace, this new project and app is part of the healing process.
