20 Years Later We Still Remember Selena

On the 20th anniversary of Selena’s death, many people ask why everyone still remembers her 20 years later. In the music industry she broke a lot of barriers for the Hispanic community. Her Dreaming of You album debuted number 1 on the U.S. Billboard 200, making her the first Latino singer to accomplish this. She is also the only female artist to have 5 albums in the U.S. Billboard 200 at the same time.

Many artists like Jennifer Lopez credit Selena for their success. The movie may have been JLo’s breakout role, but it let Selena’s fans into the beautiful soul that Selena was. She sang in Spanish, but her Spanish was not very good. Like many of us Chicano’s that have Mexican or Latin American parents, we can relate. She also admitted publicly that her favorite food was pizza and that didn’t stop her from having one of the sexiest bodies ever.

Even though Selena only walked this earth for 23 years, she left a big footprint. Opened the door for other artists and entertainers and her millions of fans looked up to her then and continue to listen to her music 2 decades later. I’d say she’s an inspiration and the definition of hard-work and perseverance.
