Whiten Teeth Without Chemicals

Washing your teeth is part of your daily dental hygiene routine. Unfortunately we are a society that is easily influenced by commercials or advertisements we see. On one occasion I began to use Colgate Optic White Sparkling toothpaste which promises to whiten your teeth. Unfortunately after using this product for a couple of days I began to notice that my gums were hurting and I had sores that were not going away.

Something told me that it was the toothpaste and I did some research online and found that I wasn’t the only one going through this, which gave me a sense of relief. All evidence pointed towards sodium lauryl sulfate, which is a commonly used in many things like, shaving cream, shampoo, and even car wash soap. Luckily the solution to my problem was to stop using this toothpaste, but there are other alternatives for whitening teeth.

Ingredients For Whiter Teeth

Advertising and the pressure of looking your best can make people purchase the most expensive products out in the market. We are programmed to think that if we spend more, we’re getting a better product. Unfortunately that’s not true. There are a couple of ways to get whiter teeth by using simple ingredients you can find around the house or in your fridge.

  1. Hydrogen peroxide and baking soda: This is something that most people have in their medicine cabinet or in their fridge. It is one of the oldest whitening hacks and in fact there are several toothpaste brands that use baking soda. All you have to do is mix a couple drops of 3% hydrogen peroxide and baking soda until it becomes a paste. Apply it to your toothbrush and brush away. Since both of these ingredients are abrasive, use this for 3-5 days and wait a couple of months before using it again.
  2. Don’t throw away your banana peels: Use the inside of the peel and rub it on your teeth. The peel is rich in potassium and magnesium, which is absorbed into your enamel and you can get that whitening polish for just a couple cents.
  3. Rinse with apple cider vinegar: Apple cider has a million uses, you can use it in your ears to remove earwax buildup, for digestion, to remove foot odor, and yes to whiten your teeth. Apple cider vinegar is very acidic, so dilute it with three parts water and one part vinegar.
