Dr. Jason Altman and Dr. Marcelo Ghersi of The Plastic Surgery Institute of Miami (PSI), have one of the busiest breast augmentation practices in the country.  Together, they have performed close to 10,000 breast surgeries.  Their practice offers a full experience, from the initial consultation, to their volumetric sizing system that allows patients to see how they will look with various sizes right there in the office.

But how do you know what is right for you?  Below, the doctors break down the options, making a seemingly overwhelming process easy and understandable:

SALINE VS. SILICONE:  According to Dr. Altman, “silicone is a better product.  It’s softer and more natural looking and feeling than saline.  PSI offers the newest silicone product, the “Gummy Bear,” which is a highly cohesive gel implant. Saline is primarily used for younger patients and those looking for a more economic procedure, as it costs less than silicone.”

BIKINI RECOMMENDATION: Anything goes, here.  The implant filler will not determine how your breasts look in a bikini. So go crazy with any option you choose.

ROUND VS. TEARDROP:  “Breast shape is really determined by what the patient is looking for,” says Dr. Ghersi. Round implants result in a more “Victoria’s Secret” look as they generally create a look of lift, fullness and cleavage.  However, round implants tend to not look as natural as teardrop shaped.  Teardrop shaped implants also come in a variety of shapes, allowing a greater degree of control in fitting the shape to a woman’s anatomy.

BIKINI RECOMMENDATION: Round: Halter-top bikinis look great with round-shaped breasts.  They provide support, while also allowing for adjustment of cleavage. Teardrop: This shape is perfectly complimented by a classic triangle-top bikini. Breasts look natural with this no-hardware style.

BIG VS. BIGGER: “Size is tricky because it is really a personal choice, says Dr. Altman. The whole bigger is better thing doesn’t really apply in our opinion. Smaller implants will always look more natural and stay perkier longer, but you also want to make sure you have enough to make you happy!  The most important thing is not to pick your size based on what your friends have or what you found on the internet, but to have a discussion with your surgeon about your goals and desires and pick a size together based on your wished and your body dimensions.”

BIKINI RECOMMENDATION: Big: The tankini is the perfect option if you are now “big.” It resembles a sports bra because it offers more coverage and provides support. Bigger: If you’ve gone “bigger,” your best bet is to go with an underwire style.  They offer the most support and are usually sized like bras, allowing for a perfect fit.
