Joanna Vargas is a celebrity beauty guru, a facialist to be more precise, that has many famous clients under her belt, including Sofia Coppola, Maggie Gyllenhaal, and Debra Messing. Vargas shares 4 steps to great skin and the good news are that you don’t have to spend a fortune to have great skin, you just have to follow a proper beauty regimen.
“Your skin is a window into your habits and lifestyle,” says Joanna Vargas to Health. She is a skin expert and believes that it only takes 4 steps to achieve great skin. The first thing that you have to do is cleanse your skin at home with a foaming wash. She promises that if you follow these four steps, you will see a big difference in as little as 2 weeks.
1. Exfoliate
There are many benefits to exfoliating your skin, such as, “improved texture and tone, better product absorption, and so on—but make sure the formula is gentle.” Look for products that contain lactic or fruit acids, which are more gentle and less irritating to sensitive skin.
One of her favorite DIY scrub recipe includes ½ cup of plain yogurt, ½ cup of cornmeal, and ¼ cup of grapefruit juice. Mix the ingredients and let it cool in the fridge before applying it. “This gentle combo of physical (cornmeal) and chemical (yogurt) exfoliators deflakes without irritating,” Vargas explains. “Grapefruit juice is great for deep-cleaning pores, as well as for anti-aging.” Rinse off after 2 minutes for smoother skin.
2. Apply a Mask
There are many masks that you can buy that address the problems with your skin. If you are breaking out, you may need a calming antibacterial mask, or if you have dry patchy skin, then pick one up that has stem cells that hydrate and plump. There are even masks that target multiple problem areas at the same time.
3. Serum
You may already have a face cream that you apply, but there is a difference between face creams and serums. Serums are light, fast-absorbing liquids that include anti-aging ingredients, antioxidants, and skin brighteners. Vargas recommends the Joanna Vargas Daily Serum, which is rich in chlorophyll, fatty acids, and vitamins A, C, and E.
4. Eat Fruits and Veggies
When you don’t eat enough fruits and vegetables, it shows on your skin. If your skin is losing radiance, it might be time to eat more fruits and vegetables. These are packed with vitamin A and C, that increase collagen production, which is what keeps your skin looking firm and glowy. Green vegetables like spinach are loaded with antioxidants which help reduce wrinkles.
