Derbez’s 2013 film is the most successful Spanish-language film ever in the U.S. and worldwide, grossing over $100 million. The actor is very successful in Mexico, having various shows such as La Familia P. Luche, Al Derecho y Al Derbez, Derbez and Cuando and many others. Yet, he never considered himself a Hollywood actor and was shocked by the amazing popularity of his first Hollywood film. He took a leap of faith and moved to the U.S. about a year and a half ago and since then, he’s been working on several films.

Next week he will be starring in the movie, Miracles From Heaven, which also promises to be a great hit in the box office. The movie is based on a true story, which is about Christy Beam whose daughter has a terminal illness. She meets Dr. Nurko, who is an American-based Mexican pediatric gastroenterologist who is a playful doctor that helps ease the pain his young patients are going through.

Star at the Hollywood Walk of Fame

“I never thought I would ever get one in my life, it’s another blessing in my life,” says Derbez. After Instructions Not Included, the Latino community voted for me and a lot of great things happened to me,” explains Derbez. The humble actor was very excited at the Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony, where he was greeted by various celebrities and fans, as well as a Mariachi band.

He brought Joel, which is a janitor at his building to speak at the ceremony. “I see him every day and he’s always very nice…In the name of all Latinos in this country, congratulations on your Hollywood star. I wish you much success because when you have success, we all have success. You are one of us,” he says.

Derbez said that ever since he was 10 years old he knew he wanted to be an actor. “I wanted to be a storyteller and I am blessed that life gave me the opportunity to fulfill my dreams, by making people cry by touching their hearts or by making people laugh, as I’ve mostly done, is the best gift life has given me,” explains Derbez. He asked everyone to come step on him, his star that is, because it’s not like he’s a chicken, lol.
