Maná Receives Star & Is Using Their Voice to Rock the Latino Vote

Maná becomes the first Mexican rock band to get a star at the Hollywood Walk of Fame. After almost 30 years of rocking out 35 number 1 hits worldwide, receiving Grammy’s and many other awards, the band finally received the long-overdue recognition. In addition, they recently announced their most influential tour yet called the “Latino Power Tour” where they will be helping rock the vote.

Maná will tour in some of the cities with the biggest Latino populations, such as Chicago, Los Angeles, Houston, New York and Miami. “We have baptized our new tour ‘Latino Power,’ because with the strength of their collective vote this year, U.S. Latinos can further empower our community—demanding more respect and affecting real change in the living conditions and opportunities for our people,” said lead singer Fher Olvera to Latin Times.

Apparently they are not too happy with Donald Trump, especially after having insulted undocumented Mexican community. Maná wants to unite Latinos and encourage them to get their voices heard this fall. “I want you guys to know that the tour is called ‘Latino Power,’ you know why, we’re giving it our all, O.K.? We won’t be defeated, Latinos!” said Fher on Facebook.

“At the end of the day, he can be a “pendejo” [a fool] — he’s a guy whose head doesn’t work well — but he’s an important celebrity. And he makes such an aggressive reference to a race, it can’t pass unnoticed. We have to express what we think as Latinos. I don’t think we should stay quiet. We have to express the truth: He’s a man full of violence and hate, and really, it’s obvious he dislikes Latinos and Mexicans, even though many work for him. It’s an unfair posture from an ungrateful boss. We can’t keep quiet in a country where we’re trying to make a living,” said Olvera in an interview with Billboard.

Interestingly enough, Donald Trump has invited them to events 3 times, which they’ve never attended for obvious reasons. Olvera has been very vocal about this election and feels that the only way Latinos can be heard is by voting. “It’s not fair for a group to come here, to help build a country, and then be called trash. It’s a violation. And wherever there are violations, we should speak up. We speak with respect, but we can see what’s happening, and it goes beyond politics. It’s a violation of human rights,” said Olvera.
